Hey scrappers! Christine here bringing you this week’s Digi Dare! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been working a lot of hours at my full-time job and feeling uninspired. It was so awesome to go through your submissions for Dare #165 and read your journaling!

So let’s get to last week’s winners!

Here’s my pick from the entries for last week’s dare.

Olivia’s “Dream Big”!

This was such a well-balanced composition and my eyes were immediately drawn to the corners and the journaling in the middle. Great job!

My random pick winner is Selena with her layout “The Photo Not Taken”.

Please email us at digidares at gmail dot com to claim your prize!

Our sponsor this week is the awesome Elizabeth Reiber!

She’s known as Fizzy Pop Designs and she has some pretty darn awesome templates at Catscrap! Everyone who participates in this week’s dare will receive a 30% off coupon to the Fizzy Pop Designs store!

Now it’s time for this week’s challenge!

Your One Word!

Many scrappers have adopted the concept of the “one little word” for each year. This is the one word that each person chooses to focus on in her life for one year. Ali Edwards started her annual tradition in 2007. There is even a challenge blog (now closed) focused on this concept of the “one little word”.
I’d like you to choose a word and scrap your page with *LARGE* type as the main design element of your page.

Dare Flares:

-Use a thick chunky font and make your one word HUGE.
-Use at least one photo and fit it into your word in a creative way.
-Use at least three colors on your layout.
-Incorporate journaling on why you chose that word and its importance to you.

Some inspiration from the Dare team…

Now on to the dare:

I cannot believe that 2010 is here! Well, January is almost over for that matter!! Time is just flying by so fast. For my dare, I want you to scrap about what you accomplished or wished you could have accomplished in the past year. Seeing as how both my older childrens’ birthdays were the 26th and 27th, I want to see 2 curly ribbons. My DD turned 12 (say what?!!!!) and DS is now 10!!! There is 2 years between them so let’s do another 2 and use 2 alphas!! I cannot wait to see where this inspiration takes you!!

Dare Flair:
Journal about your accomplishments (or ones you wished you could’ve done) for 2009.
Use 2 different alphas
Use 2 curly ribbons (yarn, string, hemp, etc)
Let’s see a LARGE BOLD 2009 on there somewhere!!

Some darer inspiration:

Hey all, Sandra here again with the latest Dare. Seriously, you all have blown me away with your awesome entries from last week. The response was overwhelming, Amanda couldn’t have received a better welcome!

I spent a good part of the day going through all of the layouts, but this is it, I have to pick my favorite layout and a random winner. So here we go!

My favorite layout is alb52 with ~~ Change ~~:

And the random winner is Linda with A New Home:

Thank you all for participating and congratulations to the winners. Please send an email to us at digidares @ gmail dot com to claim your prizes!

On to the sponsor of this week, none other than Laura Banasiak from simply.scraps! Click here to find out more about her and her wonderful designs!

And here is my Dare:

Don’t you just love to read those ‘Dear Abby’ advice columns? Often found in women’s magazines and newspapers, and even on the net. Well, I do! Sometimes just for a laugh, sometimes for the interesting and funny answers. My favorite is Social Q’s from the New York Times. So how about I dare you to write such a letter asking for advice on anything and then answering it yourself.

Dare flairs:
Use a letter or notepaper/notebook, you need something to write on, don’t you?
I want to see at least three different fasteners (staples, paperclips, stitches, tape etc).
Use a typewriter or handwritten font.
And since I’m old-fashioned, everything went through snail mail, so I need to see an envelope somewhere on your page.

And here is the inspiration from our fabulous Dare team!

what do i do with her???????
you love her through it all. you show her patience. you show her that nothing
she can ever do can make you not love her. you hug her when she needs it. you
tell her everyday that she is the light of your life. you tell her everyday
that she is beautiful. you forgive yourself for the mistakes you make and you
move forward. you tell her you’re sorry when you take your frustrations out on
her. you take her reality seriously, even when it seems so trivial to you. you
remember that this strong spirit of her’s will protect her someday. you get out of
bed everyday. you remember to breath in and out everyday. you remember to thank
god for what and *who* he has trusted you with. he must think you are way
stronger than you do. listen to him. believe him. follow him so that she will too.

Hi there!! Karah here, posting for our newest darer, Amanda!! We are soooooo thrilled to have her on the team – you may know her as TaylorMade Designs over at Oscraps!

Before we get to her awesome dare, it’s time to pick the winners for this week!

Here is the darer’s pick by iciclelady - I just love her scraplift!!

And the random pick by JackieM – great layout!!

Thanks to everybody for participating! Don’t forget to email us at digidares @ gmail dot com to claim your prizes!

This week’s sponsor is the fantastic Jennifer Fox! Click HERE to find out all about her!

And now for Amanda’s dare!

Change is inevitable. But “change” in its own right is not something I deal with very well. Even changes that totally benefit me can send me straight into a fetal position. Why is that??? Hahaha.

I would like to see a layout that portrays change in your life and what it means to you. How does it impact you? Do you welcome it? Do you seek it out? Do you hide from it? Do you react to it at all? How does its impact on you affect those around you? Dig deep. Be honest. Think back (or ahead) and really focus on your thought process. Focus on what you may have learned from change or any tendencies you may have when change is taking place around you. Then, boldly express that in a layout.

Dare Flares:

You must include a title and some type of journaling.

You may use however many photos you like… even ZERO. (*Personal and stock photos are acceptable.)

Use at least one clipping mask. (clip paper or photo… or simply use as is)

Use at least on ink, glitter, or paint spatter.

Have fun and be EXPRESSIVE!

Now for some inspiration from the dare team!

Journaling:
2009 was a memorable year for us. It was a year of getting used to being together, both of us working at home, being underfoot of each other, yet having the ability and freedom to travel at will. It took some work, it still takes some work to balance the power and peache in our household. That was our first full year of you being home. And then the next major change that I am in denial about is that Marti has left our group of scrapbooking friends, as Kristin did too, moving South. We are still in touch on Facebook so it seems like she is not far, like I said I am in denial. Facebook has changed my life a lot this past year, for the better, bringing me full circle with my childhood friends. I wish for balance.

Hi there! It’s Laura here with my very first dare! I hope you think it’s a fun one. I certainly had a great time creating my layout and I can’t wait to see what you dream up. Before we get to the Dare, I want to announce last week’s winners.

There were so many creative interpretations of what you were never going to do, but I especially loved “Never Conform” by Michelle. It’s a great idea to live by and she execute the color scheme beautifully to reinforce her ideas. Lots of pop!

The random winner is Karen, with her touching layout “No Girls”.

Thanks to everybody for participating! Don’t forget to email us at digidares @ gmail dot com to claim your prizes!

This week’s sponsor is Stacy Molter. Be sure to click on her picture to find out more about her!
But not to fear, we’re all back with lots of great inspiration and fun for you in 2010!

Remember our last dare about where we get our news? That seems like a long time ago, but I’ve got some prizes to hand out! This week’s Dare Pick winner is ELOISE24 with this traditionally styled layout about where she gets her news. I love the classic and simple feel to this layout. Well done!

Now for the first challenge of 2010!

It’s that time of year again, time for everybody to assess their life and start making resolutions about what they want to do in the upcoming year. But let’s take things in a different direction here this week. Tell us about things that you’ve never done, or things that you never want to do! This is your chance to resolve to NOT do something!

Dare Flair:
Use multiple photos, stock photos are okay
Do your journaling in a list style using multiple fonts
Use a triadic color scheme, you can read more about that here

Happy Holidays to Digiland! How are you all doing out there? Ready for a new dare? We are giving you two weeks for this dare considering the holidays so mark your calendars and be sure to give yourself a few moments to do something for yourself and scrap a dare!

Before I, Julie Ann Shahin, reveal to you my dare, let me announce our winners from Dare #159. Remember, to have a chance at $40 worth of sponsors’ gift codes you need to upload your layout based on Dare #16o, instructions below, before December 31, and link it to this blog post.

So, our Darer’s pick winner for this week is this lovely layout by makabe

Ready for this week’s dare? ******************************************************************************

DARE #160

As you think over the past year, think of the major news stories.

Where do you get your news? Do you watch the news daily on T.V., read the newspaper, or get your news online? Which is your favorite? Which is your least favorite, if you wish to say? Are you interested more in local news, sports, or entertainment news for instance? Do you find a change in mood if you take a break from watching the news? Do you feel in a better mood? Are you interested in world news? Do you plan to make changes for 2010?

Dare Flair:

Journal enough to tell us about your preferences for the news answering the questions above.

Use three photos, stock photos are allowed. Three photos, no more- no less.

One of the three photos should be out of bounds (see this tutorial for out of bounds photo effect http://jfletcherphoto.wordpress.com/2009/01/14/out-of-bounds-effect/ )

Use the word “news” creatively on the layout in a bold way, anywhere but it has to be bold. Have fun with typography!

Here is some inspiration from our fabulous Darers!

I used to be a news junkie, but not any more. It seems that everybody I once admired, from presidents to golfers, consistantly let me down with their lying, cheating, stealing, and/or lack of integrity and character. It disgusts me. I guess good character is only required of “regular people” these days and that’s shameful.

Journaling : I’d love to say that i follow the news everyday, that i read the newspaper : Libé, Le Monde,…But that’s not true. I barely watch the news on TV, only when i’m home at that time. It’s not that i’m not interested in what’s going on in the world, but i have to admit that i have a true preference for the news that concerns my family and friends !

Hi Dare Friends! It’s Barb here and as I sit here admiring our first snow flurries of the season, I can’t believe that 2009 is wrapping up. I hope that 2009 has treated you well and that you are enjoying the holiday season. Today I’m making an effort to take a break from holiday planning to just relax and reflect. Our dare this week will be doing more of the same. But before I get to my challenge for this week, I’ve got some winners to announce and some business to take care of!

******************************************************************************

Dare #159 – The Cloud with a Silver Lining

Have you ever found that an unfortunate situation ended up being a blessing in disguise? Well as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. For this week’s dare, write about something that started out unfortunate, but ended up have some positive consequences. Tell us about your cloud that had a silver lining, your blessing in disguise.

For a little Dare Flair…..

Use at least one photograph

Use some thing silver on your layout

Incorporate some sparkle on your layout

Incorporate a cloud of some sort on your layout

Use your favorite journaling font to tell us about your blessing

Here is some inspiration from our fabulous Darers! My teammates inspire me every week and I hope that we inspire you too!

We had a house picked out. Andy had a new job and was about to resign from the law firm. We were SO disappointed. She asked to see me in her office to explain myself. Well, that didn’t happen again. In fact, my final project for her class was so inventive that she submitted it to Interior Design Magazine and they published it August 1992, title of the article: “Student Work: A Portfolio of Universal Design Projects”, which can still be found online.

Credits:
Whatever the Weather, and Paintity Doodah Alpha by Traci Reed Designs; Scrap Simple Tools Glitter Metals Styles 4102 by Cheryl Barber; Font 1942 Report; Stock photo from sxc.hu

I had an accounting job offer in hand already, and I was ready for the next chapter of my life. I would have never thoughtof majoring in Accounting and being successful at it, if not for the heartbreak of being told that I wasn’t a good Psych. research assistant two years prior to graduation. I was all ready to go to grad school in Psychology until Dr. Damarin told me that my research was too slow. I was so
sad at the time, but it led me to Accounting & Finance and I’ve never looked back.

Credits:
Bad Sewing Machine VI – Gimme A Swirlie by Traci Reed @ Sweet Shoppe Designs.
The Promise of Tomorrow, Lovely Afternoon, and Celebrating Light: Sun Flares & Bokeh Overlays by Leora Sanford @ Little Dreamer Designs.
School Days Brushes by Michelle Coleman @ Little Dreamer Designs.
Summer At The Beach by Julia Makotinsky @ Little Dreamer Designs.
Wet Paint Twinkles & Wet Paint Alphabet by CD Muckosky @ Little Dreamer Designs.
Handwritten Inscriptions: Holiday Vol. 1 by Makita (Dahlia Co.) @ Little Dreamer Designs.
Secrets and Dreams by Designs by Lili @ The Lilypad.
Once Upon A Dream by Designs by Lili & Emily Merritt @ The Lilypad.
Font is Another Typewriter.

Happy December, Darers! We’re in the thick of the holiday season around here. The tree is trimmed, the stockings are hung and the gifts are hiding in my closet ready to be wrapped! There’s something wonderful about this time of year and this week, your challenge is to scrap about it!

But first, we have some winners to announce!

Congratulations to JaymeZ with this beautiful and touching layout:

And our random winner, Jenn7 with this pretty page:

Okay, back to this week’s dare…with HOLIDAY FLAIR!

******************************************************************************

Dare #158 Ghost of Christmas Past

We are going to go way back in time for this one! Use this http://www.random.org/integers/ to choose a year in your past. Set the first number to the year you were born and the second number to 1999. I got the year 1988 the first time, which I don’t remember, so I tried again and got 1980.

Now, think back to December of that year. Write down everything you can remember about that time, then turn it into journaling for your layout. Journaling should fill at least 1/4 of the page.

Since we are talking about the past, make your page look old!

For extra holiday flair, throw in some glitter.

**********************************************************

Our sponsor this week is the awesome Amy Wolff from The Lily Pad! Check out our interview with Amy to find out a little bit more about her!

Alright – it’s dare time!

Non-traditional!

This time of year is SO nostalgic for me. I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood during the Holidays. There are the typical memories of finding the perfect Christmas tree, listening to holiday music, making gingerbread houses … but there are so many more obscure memories as well!

This week I want you to think of a non-traditional holiday memory you have from your childhood (or even a more recent year if you wish)!

Here are some examples of my own non-traditional memories:

Traditional would be decorating the tree as a family. Everyone does that. Non traditional would be that our family eats frozen peaches for breakfast on Christmas every year.

Traditional would be singing Christmas carols. Non traditional would be the funny way my dad sings a particular Christmas song every year.

Traditional would be opening presents Christmas morning. Non-traditional would be the year my parents actually put coal in my stocking.

Dare Flair:

If you don’t have a photo of the event, it’s ok to use no photos or stock photos.

Since we’re talking about non-traditional memories, let’s go with some non-traditional colors as well! No red or green allowed!

Let’s see some white space! Your photo(s) & elements can only cover 1/4 of your layout. Journaling, however, can cover as much space as you want.

You must use at least one swirl brush

You must use some fabric of some sort (felt, fabric, ribbon)

And now for some fabulous inspiration from the Dare Team!

Leora:

Journaling:
it was the first (and only) blizzard of the year…and it just happened to be Christmas Eve. We had plans to drive to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, but the roads were just too bad. We hadn’t done any food shopping for the week yet and everything was closed. The only place open in town was a convenience store. We stocked up on burritos and chips and made the most of our Christmas Dinner. It’s a memory we will never forget!

Journaling:
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Actually, it was really just the worst of times. We took Shannon to Michigan to spend
Christmas with Nana and PawPaw. Steve and his family were coming too, but Steve came down with the flu, and he still insisted on coming. That’s right, we all got it,
and it was UGLY. We had to drive home to Cincinnati on Christmas Eve. Fortunately, nobody puked in the car until we pulled into our garage. We even needed to evict
the neighbor’s family who were using our house while we were gone. It was just HORRIBLE. It was the WORST CHRISTMAS EVER!

Journaling:
My childhood memories are quickly fading away as I grow older.
One Christmas really stands out because it was the last Christmas that I believed
in Santa. I remember that my brothers both got matching Steelers coats and hats.
I got a pink one. I also got this huge dollbaby with black hair too. She was the very
first gift I saw!!! There were tons more but these are the things that I remember. It was
the last Christmas that I felt part of a family.

Journaling:
When I was growing up, my parents didn’t want us sneaking downstairs to check out our gifts on Christmas morning until they were up and ready to go down with us. Their solution? They wrapped toilet paper across the banister at the top of the stairs.

We’ve carried on this “tradition” with our family now and we tape toilet paper across the hallway so the kids can’t check out their goodies until we’re all ready to go out there as a family. It’s so much fun to watch all of them break through the TP to run to all of the presents waiting for them under the Christmas tree!
